Magtool Skimmer question

So I bought a magtool SQ50 protein skimmer, been running about 24 hrs now, still breaking in. Of course the instructions are nill. Can anyone tell me what the purpose of Gap A and B are? What do they do exactly?? So aggravating to get instructions that tell you absolutely nothing. I emailed Magtool customer 10 hrs ago, and haven't gotten a response yet. Thanks in advance.

My guess is that is where the water leaves the skimmer body, so it needs a path.

The A and B openings are gate valves for controlling the water level inside the skimmer reaction chamber. When you turn the upper reaction chamber (or waste collecting cup), A/B openings open or close the gaps accordingly. When the gaps open, some water is pushed through them from the bottom hence water level drops/lowers. The wider the opening gaps, the more water is being pushed out. And vice versa.
By adjusting the air input and water leveling, you control how wet or dry of the gunk skimmed.

I see now, starting to make sense now. Thanks for the info, my last skimmer was a red sea prism, that was a long time ago, the tech has changed. Ty again.

its to raise and lower the water level in the chamber just turn the chamber and it will rise or lower but not by much.. I also bought this skimmer and it worked great for about a week now no matter what i do it overflows the collection cup as soon as i turn it on even with the controller all the way turned down and max out flow i cant figure it out any advice would be much appreciated.

There are 2 ways to adjust the water level with this unit. First, by adjusting (turning) the circular reaction chamber. Second, by adjusting (raising or lowering) the unit hanging bracket.

In your current situation, I would raise the entire unit (not the reaction chamber) by adjusting the unit hanging bracket. Doing so, it further lets you to lower the water level (since you have maxed out water level adjustment by turning/adjusting the reaction chamber).

I am using the SQ-90. This is still the BEST nano protein skimmer that I have ever owned. Period.

p.s. Did your unit come with the DC controller. You should buy one for about $35 if you don't have it. I highly recommend using it. The DC controller further lets you refine (control) how skimming wet or dry with ease. To me it's a "MUST-HAVE".
