This 10g tank was setup using KP aquatics live rock. It was an experiment more than anything. I just wanted to see if live rock was truly all the rage. (It is!)
This is my second saltwater tank.
My first tank was not a success
12/9/19 - 7/5/2020
After this photo, my tank became rampant with dinoflagellates. I had a local reefing partner babysit my livestock. I only had 1 OC clown, a peppermint shrimp, and a few soft corals that only opened once or twice a week. This tank was a failure, but it helped me learn.
I was pretty upset that my first saltwater tank did not work out. I followed all the rules from the YouTube experts. I didn’t allow any pests into the tank. I made sure to use only dry rocks. I kept nutrients super low and I fed very lightly. Theoretically, my corals should have been growing well. But that was not the case.
With my second tank, I decided to run in the complete opposite direction.
This began in my discovery of aquacultured Live rock. At that exact moment, I began to take my original 10g down.
Once the tank was empty, I Placed an order for 10lb of uncurled live rock. This rock came Shipped from KP Aquatics overnight.

7/12/2020- Visible Die off
7/17/2020- is this a scallop? Who knows.
7/25/2020- Welcome neon goby
7/26/2020-Big worm
7/27/2020- Overkill? Probably. 48w of T5HO.
Bulb Combo is 20k + 10k Korralen Zucht
7/29/2020- Pepeprmint shrimp returns
7/30/2020- Clownfish returns with a new friend
These two were added to the tank at the same exact moment. They instantly paired together and I have not observed any violent behavior since then.
On this day I also added 3x Astrea snails and two random hermits
8/5/2020- refugium “build”
8/7/2020-Jaebo wave maker install
On this day I also added a Pinch of cheato To the refugium. I used a rubber band to attatch it to some rubble to keep it from breaking up
8/30/2020- Corals introduced
As you can see, the refugium has had some growth. It was mostly hair algae, but I was happy to see that my concept was working.
9/7/2020- wild Macroalgae
I noticed this stuff growing out of the rocks on this day. It has a slight blue tint and is pretty cool looking.
