I've tried searching around and couldn't find anything specific to my question. But I'm looking for anyone's experience or opinion with having a frag and main tank side by side. I've seen a number over the years, but my biggest question is using one light for both tanks.

My main tank will be a 93g cube (30x30x24) and I'm looking at adding an 18x18x8 or so frag tank next to it. I'm thinking a 4' mh/t5 fixture would look good and provide a plenty of light. They will be plumbed together, or at least that's the thought and why I'd want to go with this kind of setup. In the future, the frag tank will go downstairs as I start my massive tank and go into the fish room.

I don't see there being any issues. as long as the frags receive enough light and flow everything would be fine.

is there anything specific about the arrangement that has you worried?

My concern would be the frag tank getting enough light. I'm looking at a Giesemann Spectra, so it would have 2x250w mh's and 4xt5's. I could upgrade the MH's to 400w's if needed. Also, figured I might as well ask. Could be something I haven't thought of or a situation unique to such a setup. Seems like it should be fine...

I have 20 gallon tank next to my 125 gallon. They both drain into the same sump under the 125, but I use 2 pumps and 2 lights. I could have used a single pump but had two smaller ones sitting around. I don't see any reason your idea would not work.
