Raising reef maintain your equipment so it lasts longer is more reliable leaving you more money to spend on corals and fish.

Gotta be one of my least favorite things to do. I should do this more

Maintaining something makes it last longer?

I would never have guessed!

You would be surprised how much people need reminding of this they seem to think it will just keep going forever and moan when it dies after a couple of years accepting no responsibility for there part in its shortened lifespan.

I admit I am the total opposite. I barely ever clean anything.

My MP 40 that is about 5 years old, wet side has never been cleaned other than scraping the fans to get crud off. Eheim return pump gets the guard pulled off maybe 1 time a year to remove and foreign substance. I took my skimmer apart for the first time last month since I bought it 3 or 4 years ago. My avast kalk stirrer gets rinsed every few months to get the sludge out. Titanium heater w. Ranco controller has not been touched since set up years ago.

I have been fortunate enough to not have many problems. Honestly only thing I remember failing was years ago the pump on my vertex skimmer.

I think you have been lucky to not experience issues due lack of maintenance long may your luck continue [emoji1317]
I however don’t consider myself a lucky guy so feel the need to hedge my bets to give me the best chances of success and would hate to have to spend money prematurely one replacement items that could be better spent on beautiful corals and fish.
