I put two clownfishes in a 10 gallons tank for observations only. No meds. They are eating well. I put them in Friday 6 days ago. I have been feeding very carefully. I feed 2 granules per fish three times a day. I siphon uneaten food drops on the same day.

Today I measured the ammonia using Salifert and it shows less than 0.15 ppm. I have not done any water change since day 1.

My question is, can I complete 1 gallon water change today? The water temperature shows 74. The QT tank is 78. I don't have a heater that small and long enough to go into the bucket and submerged with only 1 gallon of water. I need to make minimum 4 gallons to submerge my Eheim heater. Will this 4 degree temperature different hurt the fish in anyway in a 1 gallon WC on 10 gallons tank?

Secondly, can I use Sechem Prime with fish in the tank? Is it harmful for the fish?

1. Yes. you can do a water change every day if you wanted to.
2. the 4° temperature difference is fine if youre doing a 10% change, especially for clownfish.
3. Yes you can use seachem prime. Follow the instructions on the bottle.

Well a 10 g tank only holds 8.5 gallons.
You should be fine just drain out the gallon and add it back over time maybe 30 min or so.

I wouldn't worry about the temperature difference, the overall temp change of the QT will be less than 1 degree if you dumped it in all at once.

You can use Seachem Prime -- or a slightly larger water change would work too.
