Majano, Ball Anemone, or something else?

I just noticed this little guy at the base of my Toadstool Leather the other day. I haven't seen these before, but after searching online I suspect it's a Majano or Ball Anemone. It looks like a purplish bubble with green tipped fronds. I just checked now that lights are out and it seems to have sucked up into a ball like my Hammer and Zoas do.

I've dealt with Aiptasia, and if this is Majano I'm thinking I'll just use some Aiptasia-X on it, unless there are other recommendations.

Hi everone,

My reef tank is doing great but after closer inspection I found some weird anemone looking things. Are these majano or something else. PLease tell me how to ID this thing and what to do with it.

Just in case its majano I have added a small filefish. But please advice me. Me reef tank finally thrives!

Those appear to be psuedocorynactis (also called ‘ball anemones’). They aren’t anemones, they are related to mushrooms. Personally, I like them, but some people treat them like pests. They can sting corals in the same way mushrooms can, but they’re not at all like aiptasia or majanos.

Thanks for the Positive news. Could you please explain how you are so certain. and if it turns out to be a pest, how do I solve the problem?

Just from experience, I’ve been keeping reef tanks for over 20 years. Google images of psuedocorynactis or ball anemones and see if you think that’s what they are. They can be removed with the same methods you’d use to remove Aiptasia (aiptasia-x, kalk paste, super glue, injecting them with boiling water or acid).

I think the term ‘pest’ is kind of over used. I feel like with the move to dry rock people are super paranoid about every hitchhiker they find. 99% of hitchhikers are manageable.
