I have an Aiptasia problem in my mixed reef. I have used both aiptasia x and a majano wand. Seems that the wand made the problem worse. So I’m asking those who had a similar problem and ultimately won the battle, what worked. Thank you.

Nothing beats surgical removal off the rocks outside the tank. All else is compensation attempt for opting out of that. The wands and the injections leave bits behind. No ten people agree on how to beat them. We should prove the surgical method on a test rock here

In the end, reasons people refuse to model a kill on a test rock outnumber their willingness to be free of the anemones. Those who got fed up know what's up

I purchased a 'wand' from a now defunct company that stopped working the first day. Hope there have been some improvements since. When I was Aquatic Wildlife back in the 90's, we cultured Berghia nudis on a commercial scale. From my observations, the nudis eat smaller Aiptasia but the really big ones are left alone (speculated the large anemones have a tougher skin?) I've tried kalkwasser pastes, injections with vinegar, but these were tedious and offered poor results. I've never used any of the commercial aiptasia killers so can't comment. What *has* worked for me are peppermint shrimp. Inexpensive, effective, and fun to watch!

in the past I boiled rodi water and when the sucked up in their hole I used a syringe and injected them it was quite satisfying
I used peppermint shrimp to clean the remaing ones up

I had one of those wands, back in the day. I agree, it seemed to make the problem worse. I have also tried Aiptasia X, peppermint shrimp, and Berghia nudis. I think peppermint shrimp can be hit or miss (mine LOVED my feather duster ). I never had much success with Aiptasia X either.

I did try the Berghia nudis probably 5 or 6 years ago and haven't seen an aiptasia in my DT since. It looks like I still have a few in the bottom of my overflow box, but I can't really reach them. I also run filter socks in the sump, so I'm hoping they will stay downstream and not find their way back into the DT. I'm just keeping a watch on them for now, but would probably try the nudis again if needed.

Culturing Berghia nudis is simple, but a little labor intensive. Buy a few, and put them in a glass quart jar along with an Aiptasia. Change water daily. Spiral egg masses will float. Remove them and put in their own jar. Add an Aiptasia. Continue in this manner and you'll have more Berghia than you know what to do with in a few weeks. You'll likely run out of Aiptasia first. We had 5-1500 gallons systems from which to gather Aiptasia and there soon was a shortage of those that could be easily collected. When adding Berghia to the tank, do it in the dark. Many fishes will 'mouth' them before spitting them out.

Peppermint shrimp worked for me but then turned psycho and attack all my lps and rfa on a regular basis so I dont know what's worse
