I've been infected with majanos somewhat thru out my tank for what.... 3yrs now.

I have yet to find a way to rid the tank of them without pulling every single piece of LR and soaking the LR in battery acid, then burning the LR in a firepit for 2 days, the dipping them in -400° liquid hydrogen (lol).

Any new techniques out there?

.

I removed and threw away my rocks with the greatest infestation. That left me with about 6-8 individuals spread around the tank. I periodically hit them with Aptaisa-X or a kalk paste, which knocks them down a bit. Most come back, but I am now down to 3 (I think). I plan to just continue this routine until they are gone.

I kill my aiptasia with a high powered laser pointer. I'd imagine itd work with majanos

I have heard mixed things about the wand. Did you research that piece of equipment ?

heavy kalk paste ,melt em

Ppl at AiptasiaX need to come up with a formula that has a small amount of poison in the paste that majano will ingest and croak.... but is not tasty to fish.

Urgh these majanos will be the only thing left after Global Nuclear Destruction

a matted file ,just watch if prob easy to take out sleep up top

"if you even have that so called tank" lol waitn for a pic jim

To actually answer your question LOL ….. no, nothing new in the battle with majanos. Point solutions like laser, kalk paste, lemon juice, etc., work OK if you've got a few. Mostly useless if your rock is infested. Latter requires a predator, ideally a fish. Problem with the fish choices, most of them at least, is that they don't just eat the anemones, they also eat zoanthids. My personal favorites are large angels, either regal, asfur or emperor. You need to have enough room, but all of these will keep a majano infestation in check. Remove the fish and the anemones will come back though.

I managed to kill one with Aiptasia-x but a second one I’ve been trying for ages. I think it’s gone then it suddenly reappears. It reappeared the other day and then abruptly vanished. Either it‘s hiding somewhere I can’t see or something ate it? Anyone ever seen a peppermint shrimp touch one as that‘s the only thing in my tank that might.

Yeah so I should remove this rock is what your saying

i have an interesting observation to possibly offer: months ago i bought some additional live rock from LFS. it was infested with majanos & aiptasia. i put the rock into a 10G QT (the intent was an isolation quarantine tank for new fish; i keep another QT as a hospital tank for medications).

i happened to throw in (not literally lol) chocolate chip sea stars as later fodder for my pair of harlequin shrimp housed in another tank.

i left those sea stars in there, and weeks later realized the majano anemones were disappearing. most likely consumed by the chocolate chip sea stars??

a possibly effective solution albeit long-term. i haven’t had the time or space, but i’ve been wanting to repeat this scenario. i should add that the live rock does still have aiptasia. ;Bookworm
