Have you found anything that kills majanos?

The only thing that I've found is manual removal using a razor blade, removing them whole as they have tough little feet like anemones. Separate their foot from the rock they get netted right out of the tank

Interested to heard any concoction of paste that anyone has discovered that works to kill them....

I always recommend the scraping off and either kalk paste or superglue over where they were to prevent coming back. I don't know that the lemon juice, or hot water injection that works on anemones would work for Majanos as well. Following along for others thoughts :)

Biological control is the only thing that has worked for me; usually a fish.

What fish eats majanos?

I'd love to scrape mine off but whenever I get near them they retreat deep into their holes. I've tried the "majano wand" with mixed success.

Wand is useless IME. My favored fish is an Asfur Angel, though you have to have a big enough tank. Pyramid butterfly in my current tank also eats them, though they are less reliable. I'm told a matted filefish will as well, but not tried it myself.

Apparently Acreichthys tomentosus will eat majanos and apitasia. I see a lot of recommendations for pep shrimp for apitasia, so may them too?

Get some of this, mix a little ball up and seal the hole they are in

Thank you for your advice.

matted file fish are another option, but will probably also nip at corals.

The 2 times ive experienced them died during an iodine dip(Reef Dip). Not sure that helps with control through.

X2 on matted filefish I’ve used them successfully many times. The great thing is should they develop a taste for coral or something else we don’t like— they’re the easiest most convenient fish to remove. We traded a couple through our local reef club some years ago because of this. They hang out around the top corner by powerheads and are largely inactive and sluggish. They use camouflage to remain safe, not speed.

This is my go to any time majano become an issue. They do well with aiptasia as well.

If you find one that doesn’t eat them, simply remove it and try another. More than half do, in time, IME. Give it a month or two before giving up. Seemingly overnight they’ll be gone.

I have the dang majanos too...My LFS told me to try Bicolor Angelfish...have him in 2 weeks, he is nipping at live rock all day long, but no noticeable progress on majanos yet.

He'll get to your majanos after he eats all your other corals :)

I used to have 200+

Spent days manually removing them.

Now I have maybe 25 and plan to leave them be UNLESS one takes up a home in the middle of a colony.

It seems like if I go after the 25...I'll have 100+ respawning again in 2 weeks

you removed them one by one with razor blade?

Toooooooo docile for my tank that has a LOT of flow.

This fish would look like a piece of paper flying/flopping/tumbling around in the Highway wind
You should see how much flow I have. They just stay out of it.
