Hey guys,

Few questions in regards to major element levels and the usage of components 123+.

Growth in my SPS dominate tank has recently exploded! Daily Alk consumption has risen from .1dKH a day to .9dKH in the span of a few weeks (Upgraded the lights). I would like to start dosing Comp 123+ to help increase micro element levels in the aquarium but the issue is my Magnesium levels are very high (1600ppm).

I figured until the mag levels come down I should just continue to dose Alk and Calcium by hand, would I be correct in thinking so?

That's what I would do. Maintain your Alk and Calcium, otherwise they will drop and you'll end up with an in balance in those areas.

Are you considering using the premixed comp 123+, or mix your own?
&
How did your mag get that high?

Will probably be using the pre mixed for the convenience.

No idea actually, Never even dosed Mag in the life of the tank.

Have tested in multiple times with different test kits and consistently get 1600ppm, hasn't reduced over the last few weeks even though the alk has been consumed at such a high rate.

10% weekly water changes with AF Reef salt

Have you measured the mag level of your salt mix?

I know with redsea mag test, that you have to stop the drops on the instant the colour changes, or you'll get a false high reading.

Will measure the Mag level next water change on Sunday!

Yeah Red Sea kit, aware of the false positives it can provide if you rush it :)

Yes, you are right. Just dose Alk and Ca till the Mg come down. Also, try another kit like Af or salifert to measure your Mg.
