Hi

Just had a major food spill into tank when feeder dropped in and opened.

I tried to pull as much food out as I could

Going to do some serial water changes, change 10g or so maybe daily in the 40g breeder. Don’t have any hospital/qt tank.

Would you do differently?

Thanks in advance

What type of food was spilled in the tank (flake, pellet)? Do you have a sump? Any chance that you have an extra canister filter that you could fill with filter floss (or some other type of mechanical filtration media)?

Thanks for reply

It was flake food.

I don’t have a sump, but use a HOB filter.

I do have a canister that I am using for a planted tank

As said, just try to manually remove as much as possible. On the few occasions it's happened to me, I used a net and swirled it around for a while trying to capture as much as possible.

All the above +1. As a side, I would hold off on the carbon till after you have blown and cleared as much as is possible/visible as the carbon will get clogged up fairly quickly otherwise.

Thanks everyone for replies

It’s looking better after a couple hours of filtration.

I just panicked for a second when maybe 1/2 cup of flakes was in the tank

Maybe I will skip feeding tonight ( and for a while)!
