My husband recently set up our 60g tank in our bedroom. We are in an apartment building, on the first floor with carpeting. It has sunk pretty far into the carpet in the front but not in the back, I think it may be on a tack strip. It is leaning forward, HARD!!! I am terrified that it is going to fall over (we have a one year old) or start leaking and flood our entire apartment! He has no worries about it what so ever, which is driving me insane.

As you can see from the pictures, it is not level at all and it is sitting right on the edge of the stand. The whole set up was bought from PetSmart but I’m still worried that the stand cannot support that much weight in the front and the whole thing will just collapse randomly. What can I do??

I'm with you on this one. I think you are probably right about the stand sitting on the tack strip and it needs to be moved out from the wall, off the tack strip. That whole thing looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa!

It may be relatively stable as it is and never fall over... but there is NO WAY I'd have that in my house!

If that was my tank, I’d empty it, move the stand farther out from the wall to leave some space behind it (it looks like the front of the tank is hanging over the front of the stand and the overflow is right against the sheetrock) level the stand, and fill it again.

Just my 2 cents.

Holy mackerel! If it were me, I’d drain it and move it. My three year old granddaughter lives with me and as much as she plays in front of the tank, I’m afraid to think what might happen. A year old baby is much calmer than a three year old and your 1 year old son will be three next month (or at least it seems like it).

Also, my daughter wanted a tank in her apt but management told her that if it failed, they would fine her (even if she had insurance ).

I did the same thing on my first tank. I wanted it as close to the wall as I could get it. It was a 155 gal bow front and was ok, but had a much stronger stand than those sold at petsmart. It did bother me though and if that tank was only 60 gal I would have drained most of the water and fixed it. Yours should be a quick easy fix and for peace of mind will be worth the effort.

Ok so I have this tank and stand. This is the setup that I flooded accidentally, and ruined the stand. If I were you, drain it down a good bit. Get some help putting something under the two front feet to level it with the back. And push the tank further on the stand. The way it is now has me frightened for sure.

Here is what water did to one of the front feet of mine, just an fyi.

Also wipe up any water you spill as that stand will soak it right up and swell.

No reason to take the chance with a small kid around. That should be moved or fixed in some way.
