Make chaeto float and tumble always!

I bought 2 cups of chaeto online and it was sinking and staying at the bottom. I put some foam cuts "I used the white foam from the API test kit" inside the cheato ball and now it floats and tumble like a champ

It was what I had in hand that float at the moment , It is a great question, not sure what material is that white foam "Polystyrene?", hopefully someone could chime into that and if it safe for reef..

My understanding is that it is ok. I believe that we are talking about the same thing that I have seen people use it to put under their return pump in their sump to reduce vibration.

it's expanded polystyrene, i'm by no means an expert on the product but i used it for about 15 years installing eifs systems according to manufacture reps it's mold & rot resistant. being submerged it will eventually water log & sink, but that might take quite some time. i'm not aware of it leaching anything into the water. 3d backgrounds are made from a similar material i have one that has been in a fresh water tank for years with no ill effects. if you want it to stay buoyant you might need to change out the piece every so often when it starts to sink.

To make it spin I put 2 small foam cuts on opposite sides instead of one peace at the middle...

I doubt it will break down. It’s the same stuff that Styrofoam cups and coolers are made of. Ever seen those pictures of the giant mass of trash that floats around in the ocean? That crap has been out there for years and it’s not going away on its own.
