Make water in batches or a a whole?

Hey,

I'm new to the hobby and I'm at the stage now where I am ready to make and add water,coral San an rock but everywhere I read says to make the batch of water all together or Poor water then salt directly into tank??
Can I make the water up in small batches at a time taking each bucketful up to 1.023 an adding one bucket at a time?

You can just fill the tank up with RODI water first and make sure it is running ok (no leaks), before you add the salt mix. Wouldn't want to throw away the $$ from salt mix if you have to drain due to a leak.

Also the amount of salt mix you add then will also give you an idea of what water volume that you have in your system.

So should I add the RO water,turn filter and skimmer on then once all is running then add the salt mix gradually?

As long as there are no critters in the tank you can just dump the salt in and let the filter and powerheads mix it for you. Your skimmer is not going to function right with regular water, so I would not bother turning that on. Here is a step by step for you. 1. Pour in water. Fill tank past the point of the powerheads. Mark with a piece of tape where you filled the tank up to. 2. If no leaks, you are ready to go! Turn on the powerheads and filter to make sure they are functioning. 3. Add salt! Wait ~1-2 days before next step. 4. Start the cycling process. Depending on how much rock you have and how much of it is live, this may either go slowly or quickly.

Nothing in my tank yet just sand and ocean rock as a base for my live rock.gonna add live rock once ammonia and nitrite levels go down. That's all great but it's the amount of salt and how regularly I need to add each cup full that I'm wondering once the water is in and my canister filter is on?? I don't want to keep adding salt when the first load hasn't dissolved fully?

Well what kind of salt and how big is the tank?

The tank is 125 uk litres and I have to look around at which salt is best.

Well the container will tell you how much salt. Like Instant Ocean it is 1/2 cup per gallon (and your tank is ~33 gallons).

Are you topping off with salt water or just rodi water?

If this is a new tank fill it with the RODI water to a point where the last 5 gallons can be added from a bucket. Mix your Salt and RODI in the 5 gallon bucket then add it to the tank, however, make the salinity very high. I would not add Salt Mix directly to a tank because it will settle to the bottom.
