Makeshift Algae Clip To Keep Out Puffers

Hello all,

The tangs and angels in my 500G wall tank have not been able to enjoy the luxury of grazing on algae clips all day. My puffers rip them off and eat them instantly. Several sheets. Nothing stays on no matter how often I refill it.

Has anyone made a clip assembly that fat puffers can not enter, or have any ideas? Anyone found a product for such a predicament?

I am not real handy, but could probably convince @HotRocks and @Commander86 to babysit me on such a project

I really like this idea. Maybe they could custom make one that would hold on his 1-1/4” thick acrylic tank. @cromag27

I used to use two clips on oppisite sides of the tank and cut the sheets in thin strips. The other fish would get a few strips each before the Porkupine could get to it all. Also the strips make it harder for the puffer to get the whole thing in one chomp.

The clips that with old some parts of the nori are interesting but my puffers quickly destroyed one. I also don’t like putting my fingers in there as I cannot see and they attack as soon as it goes in.

With a saw and acrylic glue I think I have an idea. Octo custom makes stuff?

I went to our local craft store and bought 2 pieces of plastic used to some craft. Maybe knitting or crochet and cut a few larger holes out, zip tied it together and put my nori in it then slip the corner under my magnet. I have since misplaced it. But I’ll look for it and snap a picture.

How about sandwiching between two pieces of egg crate? The puffer can’t get in but tangs can. Just use a few zip ties to bind the crate together. Hang it from your clip with the long tag off a zip tie..
