Has anyone ever made there own frag rack? I've got some spare clear acrylic here left over from making a lid for one of my smaller tanks and I'd like to make a small frag rack but I'm not sure how I would go about drilling holes in quite thin acrylic?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

check out my thread-I did it with black acrylic:

I used .25" acrylic, the others bow too easily for me but if you do go with thin stuff, just make sure you have enough supports and that you put VERY little pressure when drilling. Let the bit do all the work.

That's great, thanks! I should have just searched for other threads before making my own!

And thank you to Reefing Madness for the bump!

no worries :) it was fun! but mannnn my arm was sore for a good 2 days after.
I ended up with 150+ holes

I make them out of either 1/4" or 1/8". I use plastic specific drill bits for holes or a router for slots.

I have had luck clamping a piece of plywood on either side of the acrylic. Drill slow, but now to slow :) The plywood will keep the chance of chipping or cracking down.

They also make special drill bits for plastic that avoid chipping, but they're pricey. a sacrificial piece of wood works good too.
