I have a tank at work that i set up three years ago. It is a 30 gallon reef. Vortech Mp10, remora skimmer, and a koralia 2. The AQ i work at has kold steril filtered water.....my boss doesnt like rodi due to waste. The tank is pretty nice, is bare bottom, only has a clown and royal gramma, it just has a slight hair issue problem. Im assuming due to the kold steril water. It pretty much only grows on the back glass and a bit on the bottom glass. If i bring this tank home, and start using Rodi water and taking very good care of it, do you think i could make it nice, coralline algae etc? Coralline never really started in here, even with seeding it. I would probably drain ten gallond out, put it in my truck, drive it home (ten min ride) and have ten gallons of new sw ready to go. Heres a pic of it.

Moving a tank that way makes me nervous. Lots of shifting weight from the water movement and lifting it with water can cause lots of stress in certain points. Those factors could make that a disaster. If you can bucket the livestock, rock, and corals. Drain it, move it, and reset. A lot more work, but much safer. Great looking tank by the way :)

Edit - the hair algae will go away with rodi, water changes, and time. You could even add live sand during the setup if you like.

thanks. Ill figure it out. Maybe ill drain it quite a bit. And have some helpers to support the tank from all angles. I cant imagine anything really dying from being exposed for 15 or 20 mins max. I could even get a table top or somerhing and carry the tank on that. I like bare bottom. Its much cleaner, and can do anything with flow.

Well, i moved it today. Everything came in the mail yesterday (light, rodi system, salt etc). They actually sent me TWO brand new wavepoint t5 fixtures and i only paid and ordered one. Anyways, i ended up draining, and removing all rock. I left about an inch of water in the tank. It was only drained about a half hour, and i kept everything wet in there. Its all filled and running now. I love my BRS rodi filter. It came with a faucet/garden hose adapter, and i hooked it up in about 3 mins. I already made 5 gallons for topoff, and im going to start doing waterchanges with my coral pro red sea salt. My goal is to get rid of the little bit of algae, and get coralline growing. Lights are 3x ati blue plus, 1x ati purple plus.

So here is a slight update on the tank. I have had it home for just over two weeks, and during that time i have now changed about 34 gallons of water with good, rodi water. I have been changing water like crazy to get all of that old water out of the system. Now that i have changed more than the total tank volume, ill just do weekly changes. I have syphoned much of the algae off the back glass. Theres just a little left, and it doesnt really "grow" anymore. I might leave it, or might just take a toothbrush to it. Anyways, what im most excited about, is that i believe i am seeing the very beginning or coralline spreading. I have these tiny little purple specks starting on my powerhead. At first i thought it was just detritus, but it will not budge. Ill keep an eye on it and confirm, but im 80% certain.
