Hey guys i really want a reef, but i saw how expensive they are... So i got a idea to make my current freshwater tank fluval flex 15 gallon into a reef tank. I mean the filter is great and i can just add a skimmer, also a powerhead.
Do you guys have any tips that i could use?
Thanks for reading.

Small tanks are harder, but still possible. I would start off with some soft corals and see how things go. Get a salt that will match your parameters well, as water changes in such a small tank will swing them.

Yeah i wanna start small since i wont have any space, im plannig to start off with like 2 clown, like cleanup crew for example hermit crabs and a snail or something. For corals i'll get like euphyllia paradivisa and euphyllia parancora. And later maybe i get like acroporas

Currently have a flex 15 cycling as we speak! My first dive into saltwater. Its a pretty easy conversion, I put a plexiglass lid that has tiny airholes (firefish) and a luminie p30 for corals, as well as a nano protein skimmer. Gonna start adding livestock in a few days, as it seems the amount of liverock I added has helped cycle it pretty quick

You're going to need a better light for corals if you're using the included lights with the 15g ,especially with the corals you want to keep. "Start off with two clownfish". That's honestly probably a bit overkill on the fish for a 15 but you could swing it but it's max for sure. Go more snails than crabs by the way, it'll be easier. I don't known the size of the back compartment but a skimmer back there might be kind of hard. as for a power head, some hydor koralia nano or something.

Im still in my finest year but I have three tanks going, two 30s and a fluvial 13.5... The 13.5 is by far the hardest to keep stable. Stuff doesn't want to grow in that tank :(

Did you make any progress with your Flex? I have converted a Flex 9, and now I'm looking at getting the 15, mostly because I want to make my 9 a zoa/paly specific tank, and I want something a little bigger so I can get an anemone for my Picasso clown.

I'm running the inTank media tower/baskets in chambers 1 (floss pad/gfo/Rox carbon) and 2 (MarinePure Gems), upgraded my return pump, added a RFG, put on a screen top and am currently running a Kessil A80 Tuna Blue on the 9. I figure I'll do something similar with the 15.

I've got a pistol shrimp/goby pair, a Yellow Clown Goby and a single Picasso clown in the 9 now, along with several types of zoas/palys and some Green Hairy Mushrooms. Everything is doing well, but there's no room for an anemone. I figure once I get the 15 up and running I can move everything but the Zoas and YCG, add a small BTA and get a second Picasso.

I'm just waiting on my wife to warm up to the idea. :D
