Making the Switch

I don't know if it makes the cycle faster but it certainly doesn't slow it down, plus it will help keep nuissance algae from growing while you're cycling.

Very true! Will keep it off. Although i did find some Coralline on my rocks, will they be okay without it?

Personally though I kind of hate corralline so I wouldn't worry about keeping it alive :P

Figured the coralline might help with the cycling haha.
Coralline is awesome! Grow it. I have bright purple, dark purple, lime green, electric blue and red. Just......"keep up" with it haha.

Also, 250gph is alot for a twenty gallon. I have a 195gph for my 29g biocube and it knocks the sand out of the corner. Or maybe its just my tank?

To better answer your question, yes haha, it will be plenty of flow

I've actually got a 500 gph set up in it now. Doesn't blow any sand around and honestly is making a perfect current. I'm hoping when i set a sump up down the road that the flow from the return pump won't disrupt it.

Well thats good man. Wish I could say the same for mine. Once a day I have to push some sand back in the corner haha.

Hmm odd. Wonder if you've got some kind of super power head or something lol

Actually the powerhead is unplugged, its my water pump that does it. If I turn on the power head its like a sandstorm in the tank. The powerhead is rated for 20 to 40gph. Its just too much for my 30

Soon to be. I'll be in Charleston, SC attending Nuke school in may of 2016.

About 2 years of schooling from my understanding. All good though i'm very excited. And hell yeah that's awesome. I have a buddy who is on Alaska right now, sonar tech I believe. He said he loves it 20k leagues under the sea.

I ran a 20 gallon system for a couple months until i upgraded to a 90 gal system. This is what i ran:

Heater - 300w on 69 degrees (as long as water is around 78 you're fine!)
2 210-250 gph powerheads (i had 1 koralia 210 and 1 maxijet 900)
1 HOB Filter for media (Fluval 50 with poly pad, chemi pure elite (HIGHLY SUGGEST!), and purigen)
1 HOB skimmer (bakpak biofilter)
~20 lbs of live rock
1/2" of live sand
ZooMed AquaSun quad T5HO light
