Mallard's Elos 70

I've made a bunch of progress and I'll post pictures tomorrow. Painted the inside and outside of the stand, cleaned the tank and sump, added in the floor. Tomorrow I will begin aquascaping and hoping to have it salty by next weekend.

I might not end up getting the new double cone... I got an AMAZING deal on a BK Mini 180 that'll be delivered on Monday. If it's everything it's supposed to be, then I have no reason for the double cone.

Should be happy especially if it's a G2 or G3 model. I love the design of the collection cup on the BK Mini series skimmers! They just lift right off and use their heft to create the seal.

Yeah, honestly it was a buy it now on eBay for an incredible price. From looking at the pump it should be a gen 2 or gen 3 but honestly I don't know. I get it tomorrow but the price was so good that if I asked questions it would have been gone. The seller had 1000's of reviews and said it was only used a few months. Little bit of a lottery but who doesn't like to gamble a little?

Also picked up a pellet reactor, switched to APEX over the RKE. So lots of changes on the way.

Well here are my first attempts at aquascaping. Really like the left formation, the right is ok. Any thoughts?

Well I got the Bubble King in today and I did well. It is infact a gen 3 bubble king mini 180 and in great shape. It was still dirty and currently getting a vinegar bath but overall couldn't be more excited. It was packed in it's original box with bag.

Now when they call this thing "Mini" it's not mini at all. The thing is a beast but fits like a glove in my sump and will be perfect with the bio pellets. Pictures coming soon.

Alright, so I got the rock to a point in the tank I'm comfortable with. It's been setup for since Sunday and I'm really happy with it. I'm also looking for some suggestions. I bought mortar from Marco Rocks to cement the rocks together but now that I have them in place, I don't want to move them and lose the shape. I also don't want to loose the ability to remove pieces of rock if I need to. Everything feels secure but what is everyone's opinion on this? Leave it stablable so if I want to move or change it later I can? Or cement it in so that I don't risk rock collapses?

Any suggestions on the scape are much appreciated!

Oh and pictures of the new BK! That is a full size iPad. I let it soak overnight and today I took it apart and gave it a full cleaning.

Thanks everyone. My goal is to try and get it wet by this weekend. Slowly making my way there. Mother-in-law is in town for the holiday so I can't spend as much of my vacation on the tank as I had hoped. Just need to take my time. My previous builds, I was so excited I threw everything together and always had issues. I'll post some more pictures as I make some more progress.

Wow!

Wish I went with a bigger skimmer.

My skimmer seems like a baby compared to yours.

Your thread may have inspired my to start my own tank thread.

Elos crew checking in. :)

Other than a pair of clownfish, nothing is planned at this time. Definitely want a lively tank with a ton of movement and awesome colors. Unfortunately, this tank isn't big enough for some of my favorite angels.

Absolutely open to suggestions.

Do you have a stocking plan for fish?

Awesome man. I'm loving the Elos so far. Do you have an Elos yourself?

You should start a build thread. It's one of those things where I love to watch people build theirs but never thought I'd keep up with it. I'm hoping to people can look back and learn a few things. I see people talk about Elos all the time but when it came down to actually get answers, there isn't much available.

Also, how's Houston? I just moved from Houston about 9 months ago and living in cold Boston now.

Then get at least one dwarf angel, one small wrasse and a two different kinds of basslets just to name a few.
