Malu anemone Care and breeding

hi all,

Just got a beautiful Malu Anemone for my tank.

Was wondering if anyone has had good success with these? I am currently feeding mysis and some marine one pellets (which it seems to eat happily) is that appropriate for long term health or does it require meatier foods such as prawn or anemone specific food?

Also I was wondering if anyone has success with breeding this type of anemone at all or is that just a pipe dream?

That's an unusual looking malu, has stridations similar to LTA, pretty though.

Malu is pretty easy to keep, they stay in sand bed, retain very bright colors, and one of the smallest host nems at 8-10"

They are one of my favorite for mixed reefs for those reasons.

Really w/ good light no need to spot feed, but if you do mysis would be good.

They do not split like BTAs, so I'm not aware of anyone doing any sort of breeding or propigation or anything, I have only seen wild collected Malu.

Keep posting pics, would like to see what this does.

Will do, hopefully it’s happy and grows nicely. I will do some more research regarding their reproduction

One of the researcher in Australia able to spawned and raise Malu in captivity. Malu and Gigantea are two of the host anemone that have internal fertilization and the mother release fully formed babies.
I was able to get them spawned and able to see the babies but they were released at night and got chewed up by my filter.
Then my tank cracked over the weekend (Office tank) and I lost my pair.
They are beautiful and not too demanding.
