Howdy...
I have had my swt for 20 months. 30 gal, no coral just live rock sand & fish. Basic kinda system. Have a Bubble Magus qq1 hob protein skimmer. All was great til I added man made rock. Wasnt told to rinse. Within an hour my protein skimmer starts overflowing with fizzy bubbles. I was told to do a water change by the local store I got the rock from. I did that. Tomorrow is 2 weeks. Still fizzles through top. Took rock out. Did another water change. Still fizzles but not nearly as bad. Gopd news is no fish have died. What do I need to do...with rocks & with my system.

You bought "man made rock" from the LFS. What kind of rock are we talking about? Dry rock?

Your system is fine just keep the water changes till your skimmer chills out. New filter socks will make skimmers go nuts (sometimes) There is certain things that skimmers dont like and will fiz up

Sorry...dry rock but they called it man made vs taken from ocean. More environmentally friendly was what they said.

Yep, Okay. It like any "dry/dead rock" needs to be "cured" before use. Most likely it's releasing organics in to the water. These rocks are mined from the coastal shoreline on land.

Thanks...thats very helpful. Now...what do I need to do to have it cured before putting back in tank?
