I made a deal with someone to trade my galaxy PE with one of their palys, so I took it to work with me on Friday. he backed out and of course I ended up leaving it at work. I would have gone back to pick it up over the weekend, but was out of town at a wedding. I arrived at work this morning expecting it to be dead. Sure enough it was alive and even open a little. Its back in the tank now and open fully. 3 full days without light or water movement! Crazy..

Wow, what a bummer, but glad to hear it worked out for you. Just an FYI, technically PE polyps are Zoanthus gigantus hence a zoa, not a paly.

Ahh well you learn something new every day, thanks for that!

Wow talk about one tough survivor...very cool that it made it through that. It's amazing what some corals can go through and be fine...yet others you frag and melt away...go figure

No some you just leave alone and they melt on you, I suppose there should be an addendum, not all palys/zoas are hardy!

Now I checked the growth pattern, I thought zoas grew on a mat, and palys grew separately, more sporadically? My PE's seem to do just that.

i think most, not all, zoas or palys could probably survive a few days in a bag or cup and are more hardy than we give them credit for...I have observed many zoas/paly exposed at low tide in the hot FL sun and rain...at least it got some ambient light

That is crazy!!! I am glad that it survived though. Had it been a darth maul it would have melted. LOL!!!

Thanks man, I will peruse it now, I am curious to read about the differences
