Hi all,
My biota mandarin that i've had over 2 years now has been acting a bit odd over the last 2 days. He's alert but off his food and just content to hang out and not really move around much, he also seems to be breathing pretty heavy. I feed heavily with HUFA/vitamin enriched frozen mysis/brine/mussel/cockle several times a day and spend time targetting the mandarin so he gets plenty, he also has a baby brine feeder which is kept topped up each day but hasn't been using it over the last couple of days.
It's been in my 300g for around 3 months which was set up with all dry rock (my established, pod-ridden rock is just coming to the end of a fallow period in my 90 and will added to the 300 next week), I've added pods several times but they don't seem to survive particularly well, either that or my angels snaffle them first but regardless he is fat and usually very active.
My clown and dotty have internal parasites which I am treating with GC/focus laced food once per day, perhaps the mandarin could be having an adverse reaction to the meds?
Anyone else experienced anything similar with a seemingly fat and healthy mandarin? The only thing I can liken it too is when he used to try and eat bristleworms in my 90, he would get spiked in the mouth and go off food for a day or 2 but was fine once the spines worked there way out, but there are no bristleworms in this tank as yet on account of the dry rock.
I know many mandarin threads are concerning skinny, starving fish but that is not the case here, I spend a lot of time and effort making sure this fish is well fed, particularly with the limited pod supply in the 300g and he is still pretty chunky.
Thanks
Nick
