So I took the plunge and bought my fiancé her favorite fish (they are rare at my lfs )even tho I hear they are hard to keep any tips would be appreciated how often do y'all add copepods

It's not about adding them as much as it is having a mature tank with plenty of live rock, so you have a self sustaining population of pods. If not that mandarin will slowly starve to death.

You can maintain a mandarin by constantly adding pods. Though I agree that it's better (for your wallet) if the population is self sustaining.

The tank is pretty established although I'm not certain the copepod population I do have a six line that is fat and happy but he eats the mysis with the others so you think there would be a benefit in bombarding the tank with 2-3 colonies at once

Well I'll be danged if my anemone didn't kill and try and eat my mandarin I swear what a cool little fish to watch swim around
