What is the proper way to QT a Mandarin Goby? Can you use copper on them? I know they don't have scales but rather use a protective slime coat. Will the copper strip them of that coat? Any help would be appreciated.

Please wait for confirmation, but I don't think you can use copper on Mandarins. If memory serves, you'll need to use TTM or CP. Again, please wait for confirmation - I just didn't want you to start a copper treatment without verification.

This is precisely why I posted this. I am not positive on how to go about the QT process for this kind of fish so I thought that I would ask prior to purchasing. Nothing worse than being the cause of death.

i did not quarantine my mandarin. i would not think they would do well in a QT system. would probably cause more harm than good. they don't get ich so you don't have to worry about it carrying it into your system.

^^ This :); see links below.

Tank Transfer Method: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/tank-transfer-method.192655/

Chloroquine Phosphate: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/chloroquine-phosphate.192309/

The biggest challenge to QTing a wild caught mandarin is feeding. Most will eat Nutramar Ova though: https://www.marinedepot.com/Nutrama...Coral_Food-Nutramar-NM3151-FIFDFZFSFP-vi.html

If you can get your hands on a captive bred specimen, that is better because those will usually also eat frozen mysis, even pellets. :)

i believe they can still be carriers

you could be right about that. i'm not sure. i may have dodged a bullet when I introduced mine. I got lucky though as mine has been going strong for two years now. i just dump a bag of pods into my sump every 3 months or so. they are fun to watch.

Should both methods be used or just one or the other?

One or the other. If you suspect your dragonet is coming from a source with velvet in their tanks, I highly recommend CP instead of TTM. Although unlikely to show actual symptoms of parasites & worms, dragonets can be carriers.

Yes, they can! I'm 90% sure that's what started my fiasco.

I had success feeding nutrimar ova, and will be treating mine with CP before he goes back into the DT
Hey, I see this is several years old but I'm in the midst of the same quandary. I have a velvet outbreak, looking to treat mo sailfin tang, Coral beauties, mandarin, lawnmower blenny, pajama cardinal, filefish, gladiator clown, and spotted hawk.
What are we referring to with "CP"?
I'm planning remove my rock and inverts to do a slow ramp with Cupramine or similar but also know I'll kill my pods which my mandarin lives on. Given the state of a couple fish here I have to act today.
Any advice appreciated.

depends on species really but u can use cp just smaller doses dnt know exactly but id put mandarin ina seperate quarantine by himself will sand and live rock and buy pods from lfs and feed him directly. that way u can make sure he gets food
