Mandarin goby care

So this fish requires time money and dedication

No, not really. It requires time and dedication "if" you keep it in a small tank. If you keep it in an aged tank of the proper size they are very easy to care for as they require no care or feeding and they live about ten years. They are also very easy to spawn and it is hard to stop them from spawning.
In the proper tank of course.

When I was a new reefer, my first dragonet died of starvation. Never again would I let this happen. Now I cultivate Reef Nutrition TiggerPods in 1 gallon glass jars. I generate 3 gallons of pods per month using isochrysis galbana brown algae phytoplankton for their food source. I would suggest you cultivate Copepods for 6 months plus or have substantial live rock prior to getting a mandarin. My $25 bottle of TiggerPods have been thriving for more than a year now.

I had my Mandarin in a 28g Nano cube for 2 years before moving him to my E-260. He eats frozen along with pods and is very happy. Many of the places you get Mandarins from have ones that eat frozen.

i was in the process of moving from n.y. to n.c. and was stupid enough to think that a mandarin would be good as i was travelling back and forth and would be gone for weeks at a time so i assumed it could survive off the pods in my tank...had a 36 that was full of pods...he ate those at a rate of about one every 5 seconds and pretty much cleaned the tank out in 2 weeks....from there i was buying a $25 bottle of tigger pods every week...when i dumped the first one in i got to watch them swim towards the light and all go down the overflow into the filter pad(was still running a wet/dry) ...from there it was get up at midnight, shine a flashlight at the bottom and hope they found a home in the rock or gravel when i dumped them in...kept him alive for about a year like that till hurricane sandy killed the power for 2 weeks while i was down here....poor little guy
