Mandarin Goby / Dragonet With Bubbly Bumps!

Hello,

This is my 2nd mandarin goby that has these bumps on it. At close inspection it seems like bubbles under it's skin. Towards the tail and face there is colorless tissue, like epidermis, peeling off. The last one I had had these bubbles, and I may have killed him with all the various baths and dips. This one has had these bumps, much fewer and smaller, since about a week ago. Now they are quite large.

Can anyone ID the problem or suggest a possible solution? The medications I have are Paraguard, API's Copper, malachite green, kanaplex, metroplex, prazi pro and tetracycline.

Is he in the tank that has the 150+ nitrates? They are a fairly sensitive fish. They need clean good water with tons of pods

He was. I've moved him after a 5 minute FW dip. Pods are in plenty and I routinely add, and he's plump and still eating, but I know those dang bumps are not normal..

I've had a green mandarin for 7 months or so, and is now in someone else's tank, same/worse conditions, and he wasn't sensitive at all, except with availability of food at times. These last 2 though...I donno man there's something in there and I'm having a hard time identifying them

Yea I wish I knew more about fish disease. Still an adept when it comes to that. Hopefully some pros will chime in. Mandarins are sweet, I have one, I love him.

Looks a lot like ick to me. I know mandarins are unlikely to get ick because of their thick slime coat, but it is certainly not unheard of.

Could also be fine grains of sand stuck to him? Because of their thick slime coat, and the way they skim around the sandbed, sand grains often get stuck to their bodies. Unfortunately your's does not look like sand grains.

It appears to be ich and/or velvet. While these guys are less likely to show symptoms while afflicted it's not impossible.

Do you have any other fish that share the tank? What kind if so? How do they look/act?

To add — if mandarins show ich its a really bad case of. Curious the answers to these questions as well.

+1 Is it possible you are managing ich? Have any of your other fish been QT’d? Any white spots, even for a short time?

If the fish you have currently have built up a tolerance for the parasites...then only new or weakened/stressed fish would show symptoms.

Even though they are resistant... by the time a mandarin reaches our tank they are generally very weak from lack of food in the supply chain.

Today I noticed that this mandarin had died in a separate tank. And today I noticed the female of the mandarin with the same bumps. I have seen white dots on some wrasses but it went away quickly. The midas blenny is scratching a bit and this does seem like ich (can't catch him ), the mandarins have what seems like their skin is bubbling up. As if theres acid underneath. Also, i've brought in 2 or 3 pairs of different clown species and all of them died. All of them had frilled fins, something like a dead skin flailing off them, and often cloudy eyes. I'm afraid there's a combination of **** in an untreatable tank, but if I knew what it is or what to use for it, I could at least try to save some of the fish that are affected. However, like I mentioned before, most other fish and seahorses are unaffected.

Sounds like brook for sure on the clowns. That’s nasty stuff.

Yeah, all I've read (as far as clowns) pointed to that, and I haven't been able to effectively treat any of them although I have almost everything I've read about lol But these dragonets have weird bumps and I cant find anything on that.

Well if the clowns had brook I’m guessing it’s brook lol. It could be other stuff. Was this the tank you had the remora, stonefish, angler and all the exotic fish in?

Yup. the remora was from a store that always has some issues and it was a bad decision, no qt, etc etc.. but yea, that tank lol

Nothing I read says bumps like these being brook, and all of what I've seen as brook treatment, hasn't helped..one must ask then..

If I were you... I’d source some CP... will treat brook, ich, and velvet. I think you have at least ich and brook, but maybe a little bit of all three [emoji33] Supply chain is awful these days, without QT... you end up with parasite soup.

What type of wrasses do you have? Full fish list would be better. You might end up needing two QTs since you might have sensitive fish on both sides, some will need CP and some copper/metroplex.

And I would give each a 90-minute bath in ruby reef rally prior to adding them to QT. Has antiseptic and anti-parasitic properties.

Sorry, what's CP? And the metroplex would be for more sensitive fish while CP for the rest, or verse vica?

I read about fallow requirements.. 76 days? How so specific?
