Does anyone know how I can train my mandarin goby to eat pellets or frozen mysis? Thanks

I'd start by get some live brine shrimp babies might be better than adult shrimp try that for a few weeks establish a routine of feeding. I'd also turn off all powerheads and pumps and let the shrimp sink to the bottom once they start eating those throw in some frozen mysis and watch carefully. It might take some time before he goes for the frozen and it might take him even longer for it to fully eat the frozen instead of the brine but slowly lessen the amount of brine you feed and more frozen. But just feeding frozen isn't the best for mandarins. They need a constant supply of pods to stay healthy but frozen can be used as a supplement as they eat constantly. A healthy pod population is essential. My breeding pair eat frozen and pods and are loving life

I have tried in the past to train these to eat pellets or frozen Mysis without success and generally they would eventually died of starvation..of course that was a few years ago in the hobby and I didn't have the pod population in my tank to sustain the fishes requirements..I have now had one for the last year and seeded my tank with pods, have a refugium. But I feed mine BBS that I hatch in two day cycles. I actually use just a Coke bottle hatchery I made and let it sit in my refugium with a air pump and hatch a new batch every two days.

BBS hatch at different rates, so I find that I could get two days worth with a 1/4 teaspoon of eggs and then I use the Paul B feeder that is easy to make if you search the forums hear you will find it. I have had my Mandarin now for a year and he is going strong and fat and happy. Once you get the cycle down of BBS eggs I find this the easiest way at least for me to make sure that there is a constant supply of food for probably my favorite fish in the hobby which all to often die due to lack of food supply.

I have 4 pairs of Dragonets. I do not feed pellets because they are very low in nutrition. Mine get fed live worms, both black and white, along with live BBS,BS, and whatever mysis they find on their own. I have seen them eat blender mush that has fallen to the bottom too.

I tried and gave up. I ended up ordering pods from algaebarn and my pods are thriving and so are the 2 mandarins in my tank. It's been over 6 months and he's a fatty!
