Mandarin goby getting enough food?

I’m wondering how important phyto is to feeding the pods. They seem to grow and reproduce on their own in the fuge in the chaeto and I’ve read that some folks just feel flakes or pellets into the chaeto. Yes these are physically massive compared to pods, but may do the same trick.
