I added a diamond goby to my 75g in which I also have a mandarin goby who has been eating frozen brine shrimp for about 2 months now. After adding the diamond goby, my mandarin seems more timid than usual and hasn’t been taking the food I’ve offered her ( she normally is a good eater) I’m hoping she is just a little shy around her new tank mate and that it will pass. I haven’t seen any aggressive behavior from the diamond. Any one else have a similar experience? Any thoughts?

That’s really cool you got you’re mandarin to eat frozen! I would say yes it’s just being shy. Once it gets used to the other goby it’s behavior will return to normal. You might want to go buy som pods just Incase you don’t want the Mandarin to starve.keep an eye on the mandarin to see if it’s getting skinny but it should come around sooner or later.

How long since you added the diamond goby?

Do you see her pecking around the rocks? i.e. eating the pods she comes across instead of the frozen food...
It’s only been two days so I’m probably just overreacting, but I wanted to address this before it becomes a bigger problem. I keep pods stocked and have more on the way. I do see her hunting on the rocks but she has never turned down her feeding tube before.

Thanks for the reply! I shopped around for a mandarin for a while until I found one that would eat frozen in the fish store. I’m hoping her being shy is the case. I try to keep a healthy population of pods and have more on the way.

No problem! Anytime I just hope it helps and I to hope she turns around soon! Good luck!

Yeah, likely just a little weirded out with the other goby around now. The diamond goby needs to find its place as well; I think I have a diamond in my 90 gallon and it took a couple weeks to pick a corner.

Have you tried changing the placement of the feeding tube? (to be away from the other goby)

The diamond has pretty much settled so I guess the mandarin just needs time to adjust. I’ll try feeding on the opposite side and see if that helps.
