So I recently created a thread about getting a mandarin. He has been fat and healthy and eating frozen but to my dismay the lights went out because of my timer. We were hanging out in the basement when all the sudden he goes nuts, attacking the glass and shoving his head in the sand. I am worried because he even banged his head on the rocks. I turned the lights back on and instantly he resumed swimming like normal and looking for pods. Should I be worried or did he just go nuts because the light outside of the tank.

Is it a male? Is there any sort of reflection created when the lights go out, so he would think it was another male?.... TV....

Maybe it was the juiciest bug EVAH, so he had to chase it? I'm like that with Canadian chocolate.

Yeah, they're is a tv, that's what i figured happened but had never seen it before.

He didn't like the show you were watching....

I wonder if something scared him.
Lol... It was shark tank. If he was scared it shouldn't have been from inside my tank, although he and my cleaner shrimp don't seem to get along.

Should add the tv is tilted slightly away from the tank

Mine does that same thing , he goes bazerk when the lights go off for about 2 minutes, then she smashes the sand all over her nd goes to bed lol (edit hes acually a she lol)

Good to know it's common, just didn't want him to hurt himself!

Well guys he's doing very very well. He is fat and happy but I do have a concern. I switched to black boxes last night and am still acclimating the corals. Well I went down this morning to check on the tank and to my worry my my mandarins tail is cut up! It's not completely destroyed but the end of it is definitely in tatters. None of my other fish are aggressive, they include a yellow tang, a Leapord wrasse, a tomato clown, a cotter blennie, and a lawnmower blennie. I have never bought live rock except when I got certain corals that came with rock. The only crabs I have are hermits and an emerald crab. I am suspecting the emeral because the cuts are long and narrow, like it was cut. Any Ideas?

How to know when is a male or a female and what live pods are best for them?

i guess i have a female... i always asked my self why my mandarin did not have that fin LOL, thanks.

any idea for the Live Food that they eat witch is best for them>? i got the regular one first with the chaeto and the i bought tiger pods. i dont seem to see if its getting fatter or thinner. i did see a big difference about 3 months after i bought it that the colors were a lot brighter and pronounced
