Anyone ever had a mandarin that likes to surf at the top of the tank? I have always seen these guys scooting around on rocks, but mine hangs out at the top for considerable periods of time. Other fish are fine, it's not a water param issue.

Make sure you have a lid they like to jump I have found many dead on the floor

Yup, maybe he’s cruising for some pods.
Mine does that from time to time, but goes to the bottom at lights out consistently.
+1 on the jump thing mentioned above, great advice.

Thanks all I have a lid (learned that the hard way after I got very lucky to be around to rescue my butterflyfish that jumped) but if he decided to jump he would probably go straight through. Tiny critter.
Mostly just surprised as I thought they were rock work swimmers, good to know this is normal

Mine do this too from time to time. I’ve read one theory that they do this in the wild to ride the current to another part of the reef to find a mate. I’m no expert though.
