Thawed out cubes, small particle foods like calanus, cyclops, oysterfeast, baby brine then when he got older I fed baby mysis. Baby brine was their favorite. What did it eat?
Worth a try I guess, from what i've seen not all take to frozen food. Also, could that have any long term effects on a mandrin's health?Shoooot mandarin feeder for the win! Kept mine in a ten gallon observation tank for a month, no pods just pvc and a feeder.
Gotta train them to eat from it. Took mine 2-3 days to figure it outWorth a try I guess, from what i've seen not all take to frozen food.
I thought it generally took a lot longer than thatGotta train them to eat from it. Took mine 2-3 days to figure it out
Worked for me on two different mandisI thought it generally took a lot longer than that
some will refuse to eat anything but pods and just starve. Its worth a try as i said, but I don't think its a surefire bet.Gotta train them to eat from it. Took mine 2-3 days to figure it out
Yea I wouldn’t bet on it if the fish was older or sick but a young healthy Mandy….send that guy my way I SAY! I’ll train em for you hahasome will refuse to eat anything but pods and just starve. Its worth a try as i said, but I don't think its a surefire bet.

I’d like to try that too. I had a scooter that ate frozen too but he was from another tank. I’ve never tried to get the scooter to use the feeder.Wish I could count on being able to train a Ruby Red Dragonet like that for a nano
I’ll try but those are on a dead phone. I might have made a post about it couple years back. I’ve been wanting to try again since my velvet outbreak but feeding those mandis is a chore.pics or it didn't happen![]()

What test kits are you using? I wonder if false readingsFairly new (about 3 months). Cycled. Ammonia 0 nitrites 0 and nitrates are usually around 5 ppm. I supplement feed her copepods while also keeping a refugium in chamber 2 with chaeto and an led in there (feeding them phyto). Oxygen seems fine I have a rfg and even had to turn off my powerhead as the sicce 1 & that were creating too much flow but there is a lot of water movement and aeration. I have a protein skimmer and use floss/chaeto
I'll be sending you mine if/when I pull the trigger then. HAHAHAYea I wouldn’t bet on it if the fish was older or sick but a young healthy Mandy….send that guy my way I SAY! I’ll train em for you haha
Hahahah nice what kind are you thinking of getting? I’m up for the challenge I love these fish. They’re so different.I'll be sending you mine if/when I pull the trigger then. HAHAHA
Oh wow that's super interesting! Yeah she's def female and that's exactly how she's moving! You’re gonna love this stretch. But I’ve had a spawning pair of mandarins (still do) for 3+ years. As my lights ramp down in the evening, this is the time that the female and male together swim to the top of the tank. She hits the surface expels her eggs an makes a quick u-turn for the bottom of the tank. The male quickly follows after he’s fertilize the eggs. So here’s what I don’t know , your female Mandarin may be exhibiting a sort of readiness to breed? This may be the case in the wild where they actually not just break the water but also come out of it. Mandarins spawn in late sunset or when lights are ramping down because most fish are already finding their places to rest for the night. Also the Mandarin eggs float on the water’s surface. Not great odds of survival when you have a large tank with an overflow.
the difference is they don't fling out of the water when doing their mating ritual. I still think being spooked is more likely.Oh wow that's super interesting! Yeah she's def female and that's exactly how she's moving!
How do you know its female?Oh wow that's super interesting! Yeah she's def female and that's exactly how she's moving!
It would be interesting to find out that single eligible mandarins break the water to attract an eligible male. Again just a theory? Can I suggest what your next male fish purchase should be? LolOh wow that's super interesting! Yeah she's def female and that's exactly how she's moving!
