Hello all

I could use some help. My mandarin is about 1 year old and eats frozen food all day everyday. Recently he got into a little scuffle with the clowns after they laid some eggs. I noticed yesterday his eye (just one of em) was super puffed with a small mark under the eye. Can you all advise please

Pretty clear he caught an injury to that eye.

I've had good results from epsom salts (USP grade, no additives!). Use one tablespoon per five gallons. Basically magnesium, so pretty reef-safe.

Any issues with scolys, RFA's, or acans. Thank you so much for the help. I have some epsom salt ready to go

I shouldn't think so ... but couldn't guarantee. My acans seemed OK with it, and rock-flowers were just fine - but I've never kept scolys.

I think your right and I've treated those scolys with flucanazol and other stuff before and they've been fine. I appreciate the help

Epsom is a good start, keep us posted with the recovery! :)

Is this a one time treatment or multiple days

Thank you. Did it last night. Eye looks a little better. When would I add more, a few days or a week or so

Thabks again

After a water change... so maybe a week if it hasn't gotten any better. If it's looking a little better already, then it's doing it's job.

Eye looks worse. 2 cut marks below that look open. He's eating and moving around great. What do you all suggest next.

If you're certain that the Epsom Salts aren't doing the job, the next step might be an antibiotic such as Erythromycin - but that means switching over to a quarantine situation, not the easiest thing with a mandarin. Those two cut marks that "look open" would certainly be an entryway for bacteria. As I recall, Erythromycin often works well with eye issues.

Thankyou. Just found it online. Might need to try this. Gonna wait one more day

Should be available at your LFS. Marine Depot carries API's Erythromycin - typical yellow box with little measured pouches inside.

Antibiotics would need to be dosed in a quarantine tank, and run for ten days at a minimum. Can you keep this fellow fed through that?

~Bruce

I think so. He's on frozen and I can make sure he's fed multiple times a day. Was going to throw some pods in there as well just for safety
