I have a mandy pair, that I've had for probably 3+ years old now. The female is as active as ever, but I'm starting to notice that the large male "rests" a lot during the day. He'll stay in one spot for 30 mins before resuming hunting for pods. IME; this is very unusual behavior for a mandarin.
Of course, I have no way of knowing for sure how old he is. He was pretty large when I got him, so it might be old age. I've read they can live 5-7 years in captivity, with 3-4 years being somewhat the "norm" if they don't starve to death first.
I have plenty of pods in my tank. He doesn't look skinny at all. Haven't noticed any fish acting aggressively towards him. Thoughts?
