Mandarin - weird growths

Jesus I am having a rough time with this latest batch of fish - these growths have appeared on the mandarin, any idea what they could be?? Never seen anything like this before

I ttm mine in buckets with pod cultures in each (it's a pain setting up multiples etc but keeps them fed) hit with three rounds of parzipro in three different buckets.

Hi - sorry I thought the growths were obvious on the side, but I have attached some more photos with some circles so you can see. Basically they look like bubbles or like part of his skin, I have seen flukes before and it doesn't specifically look like that but wont rule it out.

In terms of whats been done, I got him 2 weeks ago and hes been through TTM (he was transferred to his last tank now and thats when ive noticed the growths) - He has been through two three day treatments of Kanaplex+Metro and a freshwater dip. Plus the first round of prazi was done at the end of the second transfer and the second round is due at the end of this transfer. There was a rabbitfish in with this batch that had brook hence the heavy dosages of metro plus a freshwater dip and he went through a formalin bath as well (but not full strength only about 10%).

Hmmmm, I see what you are talking about now.

Maybe it was picked on by the rabbitfish....it looks to be peeling.

Yeah possibly or there is a swallowtail angel in the tank as well maybe he has been abusing him a bit. Maybe its just damage? Because it looks like his skin/flesh not really something foreign. I am assuming kanaplex would be the recommended course of action to heal any wounds but more so concerned if he is able to go into the display at the end of this transfer (i.e has something infectious).

Mandarins have a thick slime coat and can develop odd bumps as a reaction to a parasitic infection....ich ..velvet... Not saying 100 percent what that is (would need to do a scrape) but I have seen posts/pics of mandarins with bubbly skin.

Rabbitfish had Brook and died - I have treated them with metro, FW dip and a formalin bath.

But the other fish in the tank never showed any symptoms of Brook just the Rabbitfish

Here is the photo of the Rabbitfish - I am just assuming brook due to the sloughing and no really spots

So my plan of attack now for the remaining fish is...

Do a 5th tank transfer tomorrow night so I can dose their second round of prazi (currently dosing metro and don’t want to mix). I will probably do a FW dip in between to check again for flukes and to remove any brook if they are asymptematic.

24-48 hours in prazi then do a 37% formaldehyde (formalin) dip for 45mins.

That should cover me for Ich (TTM), flukes (2 rounds prazi + 2x FW dips) and Brook (2x FW dips plus 2 formalin baths)

Only thing is velvet but surely they’d show symptoms of that by now....

Surely that is the best I can do to be as close to 100% surely they can go into the display.... any other suggestions or tips ???

Scroll down and you see the other guys fish seem (clowns) to have died to what he described as brook and his Mandarin was bubbly.

The reason for the odd appearance is probably their slime coat. I have seen people post similar issues on nano reef and such.

I wouldn't let those fish near my DT until the Mandarin is cured. You could add FW black mollies once you think you have treated everything to try and test the waters so to speak.

Other newer methods are hydrogen peroxide dips which show good promise.

I have actually already out mollies in with them and they have been in 2 days and seem perfectly fine so far... I’ll do the treatment and might set up an observation tank for them and keep them for a few weeks with the mollies and see how they go

This has been a nightmare so far! I’m not sure if I want to risk putting these guys into my tank tbh even after treatment
