I've never seen him eat anything. I think he is only eating the pods that are in the tank. July my tank will be 2 years old.

I see the pods at the bottom... is it true that the ones at the bottom become active when they warm up? I personally think they are dead and did not make the shipping process.....

Here's a pic of mine. Bad pics - just took them for this. I have had mine for about 10 months. I have a good pod population. I have not replenished my pods for at least 7 months. Every once in a while I will soak my chaeto ball in the dt overnight. Other than that, they are 0 maintenance. I also have a leopard wrasse in my 90 Gallon/30 sump. I did have a small emergency last fall when I got a fuzzy dwarf lionfish. It wiped out the visible pod population almost overnight. Had to quickly rehome him.

You have 2 different type in the same tank? I thought they would not get along.

Ok thank you....the shops here claim that they wake up when the temperature raises but I think it is a ploy to pass off a bad shipment of dead pods lol

Look on the back at the havast date, because honestly, i dont think you should see anything except phyto if its put in the bottle.

Reef pods brand comes in a clear bottle and I seen them moving about before.... I like that because you can see them what you are buying when it is all phyto you never know...I rather buy the clear bottle and buy phyto on the size...

Mandarins are as thick as you feed them. People tend to keep spotted because they have a higher success rate as they take to frozen more easily. Greens/Reds can become just as fat if trained and fed food high in protein and fat. Blackworms are excellent foods to fatten up any mandarin and if you consistently feed a green/red with such, they will fatten up. However, it seems like the majority of people seem to want to rely on their native pod population to feed their mandarins.. which I don't really agree with.

Ok gotcha..... so they do the do easy but dont live well in captivity lol.... that is strange because most animals wont breed if they dont live well in capitivity....lol it

I heard that mandarins did great weaning to Nutramar Ova which isn't available. Does anyone know if/when that is going to be available again?

Don't count on Nutramar OVA to be in stock anytime soon. They've been out for ages.

Nutramar OVA is simply prawn eggs. The lobster roe I suggested is basically the same thing.

From what I've seen, Nano-reef has a far better understanding on how to maintain and train mandarins than Reef2Reef. I think this is because those with nano tanks were forced to rely on something other than pods for feeding their mandies. This causes one to explore how to efficiently train a mandarin and keep them thriving. There's several threads dedicated on how to train and raise mandarins there.

I dont qt any fish when buy them. But, i always use the same place. I do live on the florida cost, so i have aquired a few wildlife from the tampa bay area, those i do qt. Ive been pretty lucky as nothing has been sick or really problematic, with the exception of the frillfin gobies i had. Had one for about 6 months in my dt with no problems, had 3 more in qt for 3 months and opted to add them. 2 days in and one ate a firefish and a feather duster. Got them out with a quickness and back to the ocen they went.

I haven't QTed my mandarins, but you should. QT is a perfect time to train your mandarins onto frozen and pellets. Even if their coat helps with exterior parasites and protozoas, you should still treat for internal worms with prazi.
