I don’t know just how these guys look when healthy or starting. So I’m looking for opinions on how he looks. He’s constantly hunting and as far as I can tell he is doing well. Here is a pic let me know what ya think

Yup. Looks good!
Def suppoment with some frozen foods.

He looks fine! Do you have pods? I got mandarins eating brine shrimp and even mysis shrimp try those foods too if you are concerned he hasn't be eating enough

I feed the tank with frozen and a mix of reef bugs and reef roids twice a week. I also run a 15 gal fuge with 30 lbs of live rock and often see pods on glass so I think he will do ok just wanted to see what others think

I do feed the frozen mysis. I have been checking my local shop for algae barn pods too but they have not gotten new stock in. Just wanted to dump a bag in to help boost the population. Idk much about pods but I hear they are self regulating by food supplies. Before I had the mandi when I started dosing reef bugs I noticed a large jump in population so I’m hoping that a continued dose will sustain a decent population for the fish to eat..

Pretty much higher nutrients means the likely hood of higher pod population. Not always the case but most often. It's why ULNS struggle to maintain a good pod population. So you are definite correct in your thinking. Mandarins can be finicky eaters he harder thing is to get them to eat frozen foods over readily available pods if for whatever reason they pod population declines.

Your definitely doing well and your mandarin looks like he's doing well. I'd keep doing what your doing. If his stomach starts looking sunken in, I'd start taking different approaches but for now your doing very well with him

Thanks for the input everyone. I’ll keep going with my current habits.
