When I found out I had access to a healthy (but stunted — growth tip broke) mangrove tree, I scrambled to throw together a setup to accommodate it. I’ve been seeing new leaves, and not only on the mangrove — the turtle grass I bought on impulse has miraculously taken root! The maiden’s hair macro is on loan from my main tank. If a little less of the tank was taken up by the deep sand bed, it would be perfect for seahorses But I’m delighted nonetheless.

i always love seeing dedicated mangrove tanks.

i tried putting a mangrove in my overflow box but i guess the light from my display isn’t enough.. wrinkled and lost all the leaves it came with. guess i have to buy a small light

It's possible this was just shock from being moved to new conditions, such as a rapid change in salinity.

But yes, mangroves should generally have their own dedicated light. Doesn't have to be expensive, a $30-$50 full spectrum led grow bulb should work okay.

oh it’s been months… i’m almost positive it’s just lack of proper light
