Excuse me if this is considered a dumb question that can be answered by common sense, but I have been looking into getting a mangrove and I have one question. Do mangroves affect the salinity of your saltwater? I know you have to rinse the leaves off with fresh water because of the salt coating and I’m just curious if they get the salt from the water than wouldn’t the salinity of your tank drop? Or would salinity not be affected because they take in the salt and the water? Oops I just realized I might’ve answered my own question. :) Thank you in advance!

Lol they dont affect salinity, you are correct. However I've found that they need a really slow acclimation to acclimate to new water and are easy to kill. They do fine for a couple weeks and then die. Also, if you are using it for nutrient removal rather than just to enjoy- you need A TON of mangroves. Chaeto is much more efficient and so are other macros. Just an fyi. Good luck! :).

Thank you! It would have just been for aesthetics :) I’ll look into acclimation
