I understand that mangroves don't really pull nutrients out of a system. But what about using them for a PH boost? If I run a reverse lighting schedule in my sump and fill the sump with 10-12 small red mangroves. Will this boost PH? I haven't found much info on mangroves other than "they're not good at nutrient export".

Really I'm fine with nutrient export not being great. I'm mostly curious about their effect on PH. Thanks.

That is a great question! I don't know that mangroves would have as big of an impact on PH as having chaeto or another form of macro algae. Lets see what others have to say about it. :)

Welcome to R2R. :)
Photosynthesis would be the component that absorbs co2 and thereby helping raise ph. From my understanding though the co2 is absorbed by the leaves not the roots. So, there may be a change in ph from co2/oxygen exchange in the surrounding air but I think that would be nominal at best for actual tank ph.
