Mangroves in corner overflow?

Question for everyone. can I put 1-2 mangroves in my corner overflow? Picture of the tank below. I looked up and I see some people not using a substrate for them, is it necessary to have one?

I personally think it would cause restriction of the overflow over time. If you ever need to service that area you'll have a tree in the way.
