Mangroves in the reef aquarium

I recently added a couple of mangroves to my reef and they steadily started to shrivel up and lose their leaves. They were not tall enough to plant them in the sand so I’m sure if this was the reason. I did spray them with fresh water to rinse the salt away on occasion. Any suggestions or recommendations on how to get these growing in my build? Thank you

Yes, I have them under a plant grow light.

Build an island to plant them on. I don't see this mentioned often but they use magnesium to filter out salt so they are competing with your corals for it so don't forget to monitor it.
