Manifold build?

I want to build a manifold. My return pipe is 1" Should I use 1" for the manifold or is it OK to go down to 3/4"? I'll be running only a UV and maybe an algae reactor. Recommendations on gate valves?

i would stick with 1" for the return valve and reduce to 3/4 for your auxiliary water supply

My spears gate valves let me control almost down to the drop on a 1/2" pipe. Heard they stood the test of time as well.

Gate valves is the way to go. Have more control of the flow.

I would stick to the 1" return line on the manifold but branch off using 3/4" or even 1/2". Spears gate valves are great.

I used 1" for the return and 1/2" gate valves for my reactors. Here was a mock-up before I built the final version using all orange PVC:
