Thinking of putting in a manifold on my reefer 350. Am I right to assume I need a gate valve on my return line to keep the flow consistent when opening and closing the other valves

You only need gate valves on the accessories(reactors etc). The valve on the drain will control how much flow you have through the overflow. For example: if you change the flow on one of the gate valves going to a reactor, then you will need to change the valve on the drain to balance it back out. However, if you are simply changing media in a reactor and close its gate valve, then there's no reason to change the drain valve. It will simply overflow into the emergency drain until you put the reactor back online.
