Mantis Shrimp? No pics yet...

So I have noticed a graveyard pile of shells from my CUC all the shells have holes in them. Could I have a mantis shrimp?

What other signs should I look for?

We hear clicking all the time but we do have a pistol shrimp on the opposite side of the CUC graveyard.

Is there any other critter that would smash or drill holes in CUC shells?

That looks like a normal nassarius snail to me.

On one hand would love to chalk it up to predatory snail...but I don't thin so. It'd be cool if it was a mantis except that I have to get him out. Sigh. Time will tell. He can't stay hidden forever.

Ha! Learn something new every day. Love it. Thanks for the info. Now I'll be looking at every nassarius snail with the hairy eye making sure they aren't actually these types of whelks. lol
