Manual top off

You just add RODI water to keep the water level constant, which in turn keeps salinity constant

But an automatic top of system is much easier

Thank you! What exaclty is RODI water? I don’t have any right now and my salinity is a little high.

RODI is Reverse Osmosis Deionized water. Deionized water has 0 TDS meaning it is pure. Which is what you need ideally to run a reef tank and mix salt water with. You can source it from your LFS but it's simple and cheaper in long run to purchase a RODI unit and Deionize your own water. Hope that helps.

Manual top off isn't that big of a deal at first but let me tell you, it gets old quick. There are many inexpensive options out there for auto top off. One of the popular ones for smaller tanks is " Semix Auto Top Off water filler " which you pretty much put over your glass wall and screw a water bottle to the top and as water evaps, the water in the bottle will gravity feed into your tank. Another inexpensive options is to DIY a ato. Airline tubing, Aqua lifter pump and a float switch, but you are limited to height and distance.
