hi has anyone used marc weiss phosphate silicate magnet,if so does it work or are their any comments on this product?

thanks mike

Truthfully I find most, if not all, of Marc Weiss stuff snake oil. What issues are you having, if I may ask? Is it just phosphate.. or is it silicates too? (And are you sure it's silicates?)

It's most likely Lanthanum chloride just like most other (if not all) liquid phosphate removers. Personally, Marc Weiss and his ex-wife is about the last people I'd ever want to give me money to...

Try using some phosban firs before going after silicates. Either phosban, BRS, etc should be fine, but Weiss' stuff.. I would avoid all together.

i have been using phosban but it does not seem to help,my tank is about five years old but i changed the substrate from crushed coral to live sand and this is when the problem started.could it be the live sand.

please help mike:sad:

is this diatom algae, dark brown on sand substrate.sand added sep19 2009 will a diatom bloom last this long.tank is four years old added new substrate to replace crushed coral.

thanks mike

Could be diatoms, but you don't see them get that thick very often... From the pic it looks more like cyanobacteria to me as well.
