Do you guys just leave mariculture tags on? I tend to just leave them be. But curious because you never see them in peoples’ tanks.

I don’t have acros or mariculture tags, but I have encrusters. The way I look at it is if something has sat in one place for long enough that life overwhelms it, so be it. Heck, look at the artificial reefs out there doing the same thing. You can even take a submarine tour of some of them in Hawaii while watching the color chart on the wall change as the different parts of the spectrum filter out as you go deeper.

Most of the mariculture i have purchased has been fragged off the colony they received, and Colonies i have bought from LA have no tags on them.

If i dont remove the base i scrape the entirety of it with a razor blade. And everything gets a dip in detol.

Most recent was this indo, hoping the colors go back to the mainly yellow when i purchased it lol.

I always keep the rocks they grow on because I see it as live rock. I dip religiously. Eggs may survive the dip but if they’re on the rock, I’d assume they’re on the coral too. Typically the rocks aren’t that porous anyway.

crack em ,snip em ,dip em, fully or even partiallly covered plugs etc..put in another tank ,tags gone

I always clip the tags off. They tend to grow algae or collect detritus where they meet the coral and I sometimes would see the coral die off a little in that area because of it. I love Mari bases for mounting stuff on. I always keep them if something doesn’t make it so I can dry it and use them later. I am not so big on removing bases because I am lazy and will treat whatever pests make it in the system if I have too. Worrying about pests making it in my system is something I don’t do. It ruins the hobby for me. I just keep a very good eye on the corals when I am collecting.
